Addis Ababa Light Rail Transport Service Enterprise

The Addis Ababa Light Rail Transit Service is a $475 million project built by the Ethiopian government in a deal with China Railway Group Limited (CREC) to alleviate the transportation shortage in Addis Ababa city.

The Addis Ababa Light Rail Transit Service, which officially began operations in 2008, has been contracted to Shenzhen Metro Group, a Chinese company, for 3 years to operate and maintain it; currently, the entire operation and maintenance work is being carried out by Ethiopians.
The transport service consists of 2 lines and 39 stations covering 34 kilometers, and is designed to carry 15,000 passengers per hour in one direction, and a total of 60,000 passengers per hour in four directions by deploying 41 trains with a capacity of 286 passengers. The green and white trains operate from east to west, while the blue and white trains operate from north to south.
